BATTLE QUEST - Tonight in Denver

8-23-2003

Red & Jerry's Event Center

Santa Fe & Oxford

Denver, Colorado

FY Fight Productions, INC. is proud to present the Rocky Mountain region's newest combat sports promotion: BATTLE QUEST

This new series will serve as a "feeder" show or "scout" event for the the popular RING OF FIRE series. Fighters from top camps in Colorado and surrounding states will be represented with the athletes fighting for spots on future ROF events. BATTLE QUEST will use the same format as ROF, which includes both Mixed Martial Arts and K-1 style fighting. Besides the opportunity to participate on ROF events, all the fighters on this card will receive complimentary memberships to 24 Hour Fitness as well.

"As RING OF FIRE became more and more popular, I would get a lot of young fighters that wanted to fight on the show. Since I usually only promote 3-4 shows a year, I just didn't have the spots for everyone. Now that I am running events out of state as well, it opened up a time slot for me to try this new event. The fighters are all real hungry and I think it should be a fun event. I started RING OF FIRE a few years ago at RED AND JERRY'S so I thought it was the perfect place to start this new series. It's a great venue" said promoter Sven Bean.

Fighters from the following camps will be represented:

Pancrase USA

3-D Martial Arts

Colorado BJJ

BLADE Martial Arts

Team Apocalypse

Freedom Fighters

Team Maytec

Self Defense Institute

Bloodline Fighters

A.K.K.A

USA Judo

SHO-REI-SHOBU-KAN KARATE JUDO

PANCRASE - BELT PROMOTIONS

8-15-2003

Denver/Broomfield/Boulder, CO

Martial arts belt rank promotions don't come easy at the Stars Training Center.  In fact, most students train well over a year before receiving their first promotion to blue belt.

Pancrase mixed martial arts instructors Nate Marquardt and Billy Hendricks believe that rank can only be earned through dedicated training, hard work, but most importantly, a student's ability to effectively utilize various fighting techniques in real-life situations.  Marquardt and Hendricks feel their blue belt requirements are even higher than those for black belt in most other styles.

Pancrase USA promotes the following fighters to the rank of Blue Belt of Mixed Martial Arts: Sandra Gajski, Igor Cosic, Tom Sarah and Brock Jensen.

(Billy Hendricks, Sandra Gajski, Igor Cosic, Nate Marquardt)

Pepsi Center

Denver, Colorado

Colorado's most prestigious sports venue will soon be home to more than NHL hockey and professional basketball. Television crews and sports reporters gathered earlier today as IFC Commissioner Paul Smith and promoter Bob Azar announced plans for the largest fighting event in Colorado history.

On September 6th, 2003 (7PM), eight of the world's best light heavyweight fighters collide at Denver's Pepsi Center in the International Fighting Championship's world tour event "Global Domination" an ultimate type-fighting event. Besides the 8 man championship tournament, this Mixed Martial Arts super card will also feature a women's championship and four other world class fights including Denver's own 5 time King of Pancrase Nathan Marquardt.

The eight man tournament in the 185-205 lb weight class includes Brazilian fighters Renato Babalu, Shogun and Paulo Filho, Russian star Michail Avetisyan, Idaho's Teveor Prangley, Jereomy Horn of Iowa, Falaniko Vitale of Hawaii and Colorado's own Mike Van Arsdale.  In addition to the eight man World Light Heavyweight Championship Tournament, this 14 fight card will also feature Amanda Buckner in a bid for the IFC Women's World Middleweight Championship and Denver's own UFC veteran Brad Gumm takes on California lightweight Doug "The Demon" Evens.  Just added to the card: Heavyweight Denver fighter Tony Zamor faces Jody Poff from Ohio.

All fights will be held in a 30 foot steel cage and will be sanctioned by the Colorado State Boxing Commission.

Douglas County Event Center
Castle Rock, Colorado
(Hwy I-25 and exit 181)

The 12 bout card will have two feature bouts.
First, Extreme Challenge Tournament finalist Cruz THE SAINT Chacon will square off against Walt Bayless fighter Steve Gomm. Chacon beat Gomm's instructor earlier this year in Salt Lake City, and the Utah Jiu Jitsu fighter is looking for a little redemption.

Then to finish the evening Ring Of Fire Rocky Mountain Champion, Justin James will defend his belt against Luta Livre expert Christian Carvahlo. James last fight in Denver was a disappointing loss to Leonard Garcia at ROF 7. According to James the loss has only made the Iowa based athlete a stronger and smarter fighter. Facing the Champion will be the Brazilian grappler Carvahlo. When promoter Sven Bean asked Carvahlo if he wanted to get back in the ring, he immediately said yes, but with one condition: He only wanted to fight either Leonard Garcia or Justin James. Since Garcia is heading to Canada to fight in June, James had no problem stepping up.

LIVE FROM BAGHDAD

1st Lt. Jerry "NOSHAME" Roeder U.S.M.C.

5-10-2003

Will, I've been very busy out here and had a pretty exciting war.  My platoon destroyed almost a regiment of artillery pieces, a bunch of AAA, and some mortar tubes.  We've also destroyed literally tons of ordnance.  We fought through An Nasariyah, strong-pointed Ash Shatra and Al Hayy, attacked Al Kut, and then moved into Baghdad.  I actually did the recon for our river crossing site into Baghdad so I and one of my Corporals were the first two Marines from our regiment in Baghdad!  Now, we're removing/destroying ordnance and we cleared a minefield a few days ago (literally probed the whole thing).

I hope to be coming home soon.  I'll be sure to let you know when I make it back.  Who knows, maybe I can even make it back to Colorado and see everyone.  Hope everyone is doing well out there..........Jerry Roeder

Editor's note: Jerry is one of the original Stars Training Center fighters.  In the mid-90's, then Sergeant Jerry Roeder was assigned to a Marine Corps officer training program at CU University in Boulder, Colorado.  During this period he also began training at Stars.  Jerry's martial arts training progressed rapidly and he became a respected fighter and member of the Stars training staff. All to soon, Jerry was promoted to 2nd lieutenant and reassigned to North Carolina.   Since then, he has commanded a combat engineers platoon and even found time to start a martial arts club.
