KICK DOWN 85 "TITANS" - POSTPONED
09-29-2010

Denver, CO

From the promoter and President of Kick Down MMA Steve Alley.

I would like to inform everyone that the Kick Down 85 event that was scheduled for Saturday October 2, 2010 in Denver, Colorado has been officially postponed until December 2010. There were numerous factors which determined the postponement of this event which included several drop offs and changes to the initial fight card, being in the center of several MMA events in the local area and the WEC which will have a mega event on Thursday just days before the scheduled Kick Down event. That coupled with the fact that the under taking of doing as many as 7 events in 10 weeks to end the year in 4 different states played some part in the process. We plan on the elimination of the number of events in 2011 so we may deliver a product that meets the standard we have delivered in the past. We apologize to the fighters that were prepared to participate and hope that we can deliver the product our fans have become accustomed to on the December event and beyond.

We hope to see our fans and fighters at an upcoming event in the near future.

Sincerely

Steve Alley

President Kick Down MMA, Universal Fight Alliance

GINO CARLUCCI - Former Colorado Fight Promoter In Trouble Again!

08-23-2010

Denver, CO

http://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/2010/April/10-tax-389.html

April 2010 - Phoenix Men Charged in Money Laundering and Tax Fraud Scheme

WASHINGTON – Gino Carlucci and Wayne Mounts, both residents of Phoenix, were indicted today on money laundering and tax related charges, the Department of Justice and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced.

Carlucci was charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering, conspiracy to defraud the United States, filing a false income tax return, and witness tampering. Mounts was charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to defraud the United States.

According to the indictment, Carlucci and Mounts created a scheme to defraud a tax return preparer named Joseph Flickinger as well as his taxpayer clients of funds and assets by operating a fraudulent casino investment scam. Carlucci and Mounts caused wire transfers from Flickinger and his clients to be made to bank accounts controlled by either Carlucci and Mounts that were purportedly related to an investment in a casino in Antigua. Carlucci and Mounts diverted these funds to themselves by using cash withdrawals, cashiers’ checks, and by otherwise causing their associates to give them the money.

According to the indictment, Carlucci filed a false income tax return for 2004 that failed to report any of the money he received in the scheme and used for his own benefit. Mounts failed to file a tax return for 2004 despite receiving substantial income from the scheme. Carlucci and Mounts used some of the money to buy a luxury boat that they hid from the government.

An indictment is merely a formal charge by the grand jury. Each defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a U.S. District Court.

If convicted, Carlucci faces a maximum potential sentence of 48 years in prison and a maximum fine of $1,250,000. If convicted, Mounts faces a maximum potential sentence of 25 years in prison and a maximum fine of $750,000.

The case is being prosecuted by Tax Division attorneys Richard Rolwing and Monica Edelstein. The case was investigated by the IRS - Criminal Investigation Division.

Additional information about the Justice Department’s Tax Division and its enforcement efforts may be found at www.usdoj.gov/tax/

July 31, 2010, Jacksonville, NC -  North Carolina Pancrase fighter James Wright (42 year old) has first professional bout.

According to Black Belt Jerry Roeder, "he completely outclassed his opponent (Joseph Sullivan) opening the fight with leg kicks that his Sullivan had no answer for. After several blistering kicks frustrated him, Sullivan rushed Jim with a flurry of punches, all slipped and ducked. On Sullivan's second combination attempt, Jim clinched, kneed, and earned a clean takedown to side mount. Within seconds of securing control, he moved to north/south, and secured a reversed guillotine (or Monson choke, or whatever anyone else calls it) for the first round submission.

He's got a great group of guys out there in Eastern Carolina's only true professional MMA school."

LOCAL NEWS - Denver Colorado MMA

RING OF FIRE: TAPOUT, XSI INSURANCE & BROTHERS BBQ PRESENT - "SUMMERBRAWL"

08-04-2010, Denver, CO

Event date: Friday, August 27th

Venue: Fillmore Auditorium, Denver, CO

Denver,CO - RING OF FIRE MMA is the longest running promotion in the Rocky Mountain region. On Friday August 27th they return with the second annual SUMMERBRAWL event. Headlining the event will be a clash of two former TUF and UFC veterans as Eliot THE FIRE Marshall faces off against Josh BRING THE PAIN Haynes.

Marshall, who's career was launched at Ring Of Fire, is happy about the return. "I'm really excited to be getting back in the cage and the Ring of Fire is a great step for me to get back in the UFC. I started my career here so I feel real comfortable fighting for the organization, and my hometown fans" said Marshall.

After going 5-1 in matches on ROF, promoter Sven Bean submitted Marshall as an applicant to the SPIKE Season 8 Ultimate Fighter. The BJJ Black Belt was picked up a cast member on the show. Following the show's production, Eliot defeated cast mate Jules Bruchez at the TUF 8 Finale. He then faced Vinicius Magalhães at UFC 97, whom he defeated by unanimous decision. In September of '09 he fought Jason Brilz at UFC 103, winning a split decision. Earlier this year Marshall faced former IFL Light Heavyweight Champion Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC LIVE: Vera vs. Jones. Marshall lost a split decision (30-27, 28-29, 30-27). Following the loss to Matyushenko, Marshall was released from the UFC.

Eliot makes no bones about wanting to return to the UFC, but hasn't overlooked his upcoming opponent at SUMMERBRAWL. "Josh Haynes is a tough opponent. He is very durable and aggressive so it should make for an exciting fight! This is a very important fight for me. My goal is to get back to the UFC so this is the first step. I also want to show my fans and the MMA community a different and more aggressive style of fighting."

If Marshall is looking for an "agressive" match up then he has to look no further than Josh BRING THE PAIN Haynes. Out of Hayne's 17 victories, 15 opponents were finished by either KO, TKO or Submission.

Haynes, was a cast member of the Season 3 of the Ultimate Fighter, fighting for Tito Ortiz's team. After defeating both Tait Fletcher, and Jesse Forbes on the show, he would face future superstar Michael Bisping in the finals. After nearly 2 rounds of back and forth action, referee John McCarthy stopped the action with only :46 seconds left in the second round. Surviving multiple submission attempts and striking flurries, Haynes never stopped trying to stay in the fight, as commentator Joe Rogan repeatedly said "There in no QUIT in Josh Haynes". Haynes was later released from the UFC after going 0-2 in single matches. Haynes next appeared as a contestant on Ty Murray's Celeberity Bull Riding Challenge along with NFL great Raghib "Rocket" Ismail, freestyle motocross champ Kenny Bartram, actor Stephen Baldwin and rapper Vanilla Ice.

After the completion of the show Haynes continued his MMA career racking up 5-2 record, and is currently on a 2 fight win streak. Haynes, like Marshall, has aspirations of returning to the UFC. But this veteran knows full well that it is a process.

" This fight is extremely important. Every fight is! I want this fight and I want this win. I am looking forward to this chance to get back into the game. If I make things happen as I plan, this is just the first step in my climb back to the UFC. I appreciate Ring Of Fire and Eliot giving me this opportunity, I fully intend to make the most of it! I can assure you that my coach, Shawn Tompkins and my training partners at Tapout Training Center will have me ready to go. I expect no less from Eliot and his camp. This will be a war and I fully intend to be standing when it I over. Just don't blink, it might be that fast."

At welterweight, Brandon RUCKUS Thatch will finally return to the cage. Ruckus last appeared at ROF 33 where he won the 170 lb Young Guns Championship with a devastating head kick to Mark Arrant in just :18 seconds of the first round. Thatch seemed like he was on the fast track to stardom appearing on 4 ROF events and also on the Strikeforce Playboy Mansion broadcast. A neck injury de-railed the young star, and after a 20 month absence he is 100% healthy and 100% ready to return. Thatch was originally scheduled to defend his title against ROF 38 victor Chris Holland, but Holland declined the title shot wanting more time to prepare. Thatch will now face Danny DEE-1 Davis in a non title bout. Thatch and Davis are virtually the same type of fighter style wise, both being proficient muay thai strikers. They also have the same long and lean body style at 6' 3" tall. Potentially this could be the shootout of the year.

It just wouldn't be a ROF event without at least one women's match on the card. Fresh off her Young Guns Championship victory at ROF 38, Michelle THE BOBCAT Blalock returns to competition. Blalocks skill set improves with each outing, and at ROF 38 she controlled her opponent for all 3 rounds. No small task considering her opponent was a world class wrestler. Now holding a 5-0 record in MMA, she is a force to be reckoned with. Michelle will be facing Marciea THE BLACK WIDOW Allen from Watertown, SD. Marciea is a freestyle fighter training out of the MMA Factory. She has a 3-1 record with 2 KO's and is an incredibly conditioned athelete. Sometimes training three times a day, her natural athletic ability makes her a nightmare for opposing fighters. This non title fight will be contested at 130 lbs.

Stay tuned for the full fight card to be released early next week!

RING OF FIRE 38: "ASCENSION" - WOMEN HEADLINE FIRST TIME IN PROMOTION HISTORY

05-16-2010, Denver, CO

Event date: June 5th

Venue: 1st Bank Center, Broomfield, CO

http://www.rofmma.com

DENVER, CO - RING OF FIRE MMA is one of the first promotions to feature women fighters, however at ROF 38: ASCENSION the promotion will give the ladies the main event spot.

"I have been a supporter of Women's MMA for a long time. We've been putting on womens matches for years, and were the first in this region to do so. But it used to be really hard to find true trained fighters, and you only had a handful to choose from." said promoter Sven Bean.

"But now the women ranks are growing. When you see a womens bout headline a card on national TV, well you know the ladies have arrived. And it's no different with Ring Of Fire. The time is right and I think the fans will respond as well."

Not only will the main event feature the ROF 125 lbs Womens Championship, but the card will have 3 womens bouts in total. The promotions #1 ranked female fighter, Cat Albert will square up against Gladiator Challenge 125 Champion Christina Marks.

Albert being a world class wrestler normally has the edge in grappling. Cat wrestled on the boys team in high school. She then advanced to compete in College and became a 2 time National Champion and 2 time Freestyle National Champion. In MMA, she has been able to transfer those skills effectively and controls her opponents with strength and positioning. But at ROF 38 she will have her hands full with Marks. Hailing from the Fight Ugly team from San Diego, California, Marks brings a well rounded skill set to the table. She finished her last opponent with a standing rear naked choke in the second round.

Kate Martinez, who was recently promoted to purple belt by the legendary Royce Gracie will also appear on the event. She will face Celestino Cano, a boxer-kickboxer fro Plainview, Texas. And local grappler Michelle Blalock will vie for the ROF 125 lbs Young Guns Belt against Indiana's Audrey Pang. Pang who is originally from Canada, shares a similar wrestling pedigree as Cat Albert. Pang made history as the first women to wrestle on the mens team at Princeton University.

ROF is known as the launch pads for the stars in the industry. And that tradition continues at ROF 38. Three of the most promosing up and coming fighters in the region will appear. At Middleweight, Chaun Simms has been making his presence known finishing all of his opponents, with 3 of them not making it past the first round. Simms will step way up in level of opponent as Korea's Myeon Ho Bae makes his ROF debut. Myeon Ho Bae has a 9-5 record and is a veteran of Japan's DREAM promotion.

The powerful Robert Martinez makes his promotional debut as well and brings his perfect record with him. Martinez went 6-0 as an amateur and is now 2-0 as a professional. Of his 8 wins, 7 are by way of knockout. Martinez will face his most technical striker based opponent in Chidi Njokauni. If that name sounds familiar, it's because Chidi is the younger brother of WEC star Anthony Njokuani. Chidi is is a World Combat League veteran and has the same fighting style and aggressive nature as his brother.

Vinnie The ASSAULT Lopez has gone 3-0 in his first 3 mma bouts. He admits his style at first was mostly just a progression of his street fighting ability. Even his nick name is a nodd towards his younger street days. However as of late Lopez has been training with some of the world's best fighters at Grudge Training Center. Grudge is home to a who's who of the MMA elite, including Shane Carwin, Nate Marquardt, Rashad Evans, etc. Lopez, a heavy handed striker, feels his game has increased by leaps and bounds and is ready for the pro circuit. Standing in his way will be one of the most durable fighters on the regional circuit, Chris Holland. Holland will be making his second ROF appearance and brings a 6-4 record , with all 6 of his wins coming by knockout. This match has local insiders laying odds as top Fight Of The Night candidate.

Here is the current line up for ROF 38: ASCENSION
